Los Angeles Regional Food Bank tour for EMBers
Early in January, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank invited Eat My Blog bakers for a mini tour of their offices and warehouse. Marie Carpenter, the Community Relations Manager, was fantastically informative and hospitable to us as we toured their facilities and learned about the L.A. Regional Food Bank’s role in fighting hunger in L.A. You can also learn about this charitable organization by clicking here.
We toured a very large, refrigerated warehouse which housed all donated food that were yet to be sorted and distributed. It was amazing to learn that all this food was still not enough to service all the needy and hungry in Los Angeles County because “demand for food assistance outstrips supply” so the food bank can always use our help!
We also saw a lot of volunteers, young and old, sorting, repackaging, and inspecting donated food items at the warehouse. It was a heartwarming sight to see so many volunteers ready to help on a Saturday. If you want more information about volunteer opportunities, click here.
Thank you Marie for your hospitality! And thank you Eat My Blog bakers for joining us on our tour of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank facilities.
Please stay tune for volunteer opportunities organized by the Eat My Blog Committee. And once again, THANK YOU for all your support!
Another Sweet Success!
Almost a week ago today, a ton of bakers, sweet eaters, and just plain generous individuals descended upon Pita Jungle in Pasadena to support our Eat My Blog Charity Bake Sale. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we raised $4,323.86 for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank which means a grand total of over $16,000 since this charity’s existence. Holy cannoli bakers!
Although the day turned out to be rather warm for December, causing a few make-up and chocolate melt downs along the way, our baked goods held up for the most part and were purchased swiftly. You can salivate over all the Eat My Blog baked goods, sans the heat, with pictures taken by our talented Wes.
Till the next baking opportunity! Great big hugs, chocolate kisses, and thank yous from the Eat My Blog committee.

A Sweet Note for This Sweet Charity
The Eat My Blog committee would like to share with you a thank you letter we had recently received from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. An especially poignant message in the letter stands out to us:
We are particularly grateful for your support during these challenging times when more of our neighbors in Los Angeles County are at risk of hunger than ever before. Your gift allows us to secure and distribute nutritious food such as fruits and vegetables as well as staples like tuna, pasta, beans and rice. Each dollar you donate allows the Foodbank to provide enough food for four meals. By supporting the Foodbank, your kindness helps us to provide hundreds of thousands of families, seniors, children, men and women with much needed, nutritious food.
Thank you bakers and sweet eaters for your support and dedication! We fed a lot of people in 2010, oh yes we did! Here’s to more baking, eating, and sweet toothaches in 2011. We look forward to working with you all again. THANK YOU!
